Finish
« on: October 30, 2019, 02:56:10 pm »
My thanks to everyone who has participated in the day and made it what it is. The good thing about this platform is the conversations can continue once the formal event is over, so please do keep talking. If you missed the event on the day for whatever reason then, by all means, pitch your contributions in. If you have just lurked and viewed the discussions then thank you also and I hope you found something useful in today’s discussion.

We can use this space to discuss any aspect of this topic that was not covered by the previous posts. All the topics and questions I posted are based solely on my experience of working with legacy metadata and I’m sure other topics could be addressed (de-colonisation?). For example what impact will NBK have on legacy metadata work? If there is a topic that needs a dedicated board, let me know and I will create it as I already did with the classification board.

I welcome any feedback you may have about the day’s event positive or negative and I will post a survey tomorrow.

Thanks for hosting this, Will. It's certainly been interesting to hear what's going on in other HE institutions, and given me some food for thought. Oh, and some words to look up - like RegEx! And, while we were having the discussions I had a quick trawl through our database and, as I suspected, we have a large proportion of monograph records that don't have ISBNs, principally because they pre-date the system, so, we have a lot of BNB number (e.g b1234567), LC numbers (e.g. <space>1234567<space>) and system assigned, local control  numbers (e.g. M12345678LP, q1234567, w...... etc.) and this has always caused us issues with matches.

Anyway, thanks again,

Lynne

Thanks Will and thanks to everyone for participating. Lots of 'stuff' to think about and a really good demonstration of the knowledge and expertise that exists within the group. As this will be here as an editable archive it would be good if we can build on this. I'm particularly keen to discuss these topics with other Capita Alto users.

Thanks Will and other participants! Although I was mostly lurking, there are several interesting discussions which I can take forward with some of my colleagues here.
